Detroit: City Hotels and Accommodation

A seemingly endless selection of hotels lies within the heart of the city, just 20 miles / 32 km to the northeast of Detroit Metro Airport (DTW). Most hotels in the city center offer good value and rates are often reduced both at the weekend and during the winter months.

Budget travelers visiting the city of Detroit will find a number of value accommodation options, which include the HI Country Grandma's Home Hostel along Bell Road, and the affordable camping ground at the Pontiac Lake Recreation Area, an impressive state park in nearby Waterford. Many mid-range motels can be found along nearby Interstates and major roads, including Jefferson Avenue and Washington Boulevard. The suburbs of Detroit also feature a host of inexpensive motels, B&Bs and reasonably priced hotels. Many additional hotels can be found clustered around the following districts.

Rivertown / Civic Center
One of the most trendy and attractive parts of the city, Rivertown is full of hotels, many of which offer impressive views of both the riverfront and the cityscape. In recent years, much of this area has been greatly redeveloped and is dominated by many striking buildings and landmarks. Detroit's Rivertown and Civic Center district is known for its annual celebrations, with highlights include both the spectacular Ford Detroit International Jazz Festival and the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, when hotels in this region quickly become fully booked.

Theater District
Full of cultural attractions, Detroit's theater district is an exceptional draw card, containing numerous theaters which offer a diverse range of shows and musicals. Many of the theaters in this part of the city are important landmarks in their own right, with plenty of hotels, restaurants and shops also thrown in for added appeal.

Bricktown
Located close to both the spectacular Renaissance Center and Detroit's Greektown area, Bricktown is a small neighborhood with a strong Bohemian character. Live-music venues, eateries and a popular casino regularly attract visitors to this area, together with a number of notable hotels, a historic church and the eye-catching Wayne County Building.

Cultural Center Historic District
Those looking for museums, galleries and culture should be sure to stay in this district, where hotels are never far from popular attractions. Close to the Theater district, highlights in the Cultural Center include the Detroit Historical Museum, the Science Center and the International Institute, all of which are worthy of a visit.

Greektown
Famed for its authentic Mediterranean cuisine and charm, Detroit's Greektown offers a thriving street-café culture and countless enticing restaurants. Many of the city's best places to eat out can be found in this bustling district, together with a rather diverse variety of hotels and accommodation options, local specialty shops and lively bars.

Hamtrack
Partygoers visiting the city of Detroit should look no further than the Hamtrack district, which is brimming with live music, nightclubs and eateries. Hotels in Hamtract are never far from the action.
